Edo State University’s Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dawood Egbefo, announced that 314 lecturers will undergo training on modern teaching techniques to enhance academic performance.
The workshop in Iyamoh, Edo State, is designed to equip academic staff with updated teaching methods.
Prof. Egbefo emphasized that continuous training is vital for teachers to meet the demands of the 21st-century classroom. “No amount of time spent in university can fully prepare teachers for classroom tasks.
Constant training and retraining are necessary to ensure they are equipped for modern-day challenges,” he stated.
The training aims to lay a strong foundation for the upcoming academic session and help lecturers prepare for the challenges of the first semester.
In his lecture, “Techniques for Improving Performance of Academic Staff,” Dr. Orhare Osumah highlighted key methods to boost teaching effectiveness. These include investing in staff training, mentorship, coaching, setting clear goals, and fostering a supportive environment. He also emphasized the importance of regular feedback, recognition, and opportunities for professional growth.
Dr. Anthony Iyoha, Director of Professional Training and Development at the university, added that the workshop aims to equip lecturers with the skills needed to elevate the institution to a world-class standard.
