The Nigerian police have launched an investigation into a viral video allegedly showing officers assaulting a young man, identified as Odesanmi Dare, an automobile dealer in Osogbo, Osun State.

The footage, which surfaced online on Friday, shows officers from the Osun Command reportedly stopping and brutalising Dare in front of the Rinsayo Filling Station, located on Ring Road in Osogbo.

Eyewitnesses say the officers attacked the man despite him presenting the required documents.

Reacting to the incident, Police spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said on Saturday that the force would not tolerate any form of misconduct. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he confirmed that the Osun State command had been directed to investigate the matter.

“The AIG Zone 11 Osogbo has also been instructed to take action. We will not condone professional misconduct from any officers. Efforts to address complaints and enhance oversight and accountability within the police have been intensified,” Adejobi wrote.
