Ayodele Fayose
  • According to Fayose, the structures that once made PDP a great party has collapsed.
  • He noted that while the APC can be defeated, PDP as a platform is now virtually non-existent.

Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti, says the current political turmoil and election losses in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have haunted the party.

Speaking on Sunday Politics, a Channels Television programme, Fayose lamented that internal suspensions have severely damaged the party’s reputation.

He said the crisis has plunged the PDP into unnecessary embarrassment and unprecedented depths of disrepute.

“The current situation in our party has made a mockery of suspension and counter-suspension, especially at that level of leadership,” the ex-governor said.

“And sadly now, the current situation in the party has taken the party so low to the level of embarrassment that is most unnecessary.”

The former governor said he believes the PDP’s resurgence requires divine intervention to reunify and reclaim its strength, enabling it to competitively vie for top political positions nationwide.

“The mismanagement and arrogance of a few today is haunting the party and they say when the head is sick the whole body is gone.

“So, it will need God’s intervention, it will need a miracle for this party to be put together again,” he said.

During the interview, Fayose also noted that the 2023 candidate of the Labour Party, LP is now a more prominent and recognized figure as the opposition leader in the country.

He noted that Nigeria’s once-dominant PDP, controlling most states from 1999-2015, has significantly diminished due to internal conflicts and crises.

”As I always say we can defeat the APC but when we don’t have a party again, how can we defeat them,” he said

”When we complain about the APC and we don’t have a party and you can say you will do this and that, but when Obi is the voice of the opposition now.

“The press will call Obi than call the PDP and when the Publicity Secretary is suspending people and vice-versa, so where is the party?”
