Nigeria to Validate National Blue Economy Strategy at Abuja Workshop

A final validation workshop for Nigeria’s draft national blue economy strategy is scheduled to take place in Abuja from October 14 to 16, 2024.

The event, organized by the African Union – Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources and funded by the Kingdom of Norway, aims to verify the strategy and promote sustainable development of Nigeria’s maritime resources.

Key topics include sustainable energy, blue tourism, fisheries, governance, and shipping. The workshop will feature opening remarks by Georges Asseko from the African Union, Obinna Anozie, and Nigeria’s Minister of Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola. Expert presentations, group discussions, and strategy reviews will follow.

The event will conclude with the presentation of the strategy’s implementation plan, governance mechanism, and the adoption of a final communique, setting the stage for Nigeria’s future in the blue economy.
