Man, 45, drowns in Lagos River after taking ‘colorade’

A 45-year-old man simply identified as Kazeem has drowned in Lagos State.

The man drowned in a river at Odo Tente, a boundary community between Lagos and Ogun states.

Kazeem was said to have consumed a substance suspected to be a hard drug known as Colorado before the incident occurred.

The substance made the deceased lose lucidity and sense of reasoning after which he ran and plunged into the river.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday.

“On 11/10/2024, about 11 am, a complainant reported at the Alagbado Division that one Kazeem, ‘M’, aged 45, under the influence of a hard drug suspected to be Colorado, ran uncontrollably and jumped into a river at the Odo Tente boundary between Lagos and Ogun states. Sequel to this, the victim drowned and died,” he said.

The PPRO added that detectives from the Alagbado Police Division visited the scene to assess the situation and took photographs of the deceased.

He stated that when the father of the deceased was contacted, he reportedly directed that the riverside bury Kazeem’s body according to their local customs.
