Nigeria Mandates Foreign Airlines to Use Local Caterers for On-Board Meals

The new policy is set to take effect from January 1, 2025

The Federal Ministry of Aviation has issued a directive requiring foreign airlines to use local caterers for on-board meals on all outbound flights from Nigeria.

The new policy, set to take effect from January 1, 2025, was announced by H.T. Ejibunu, Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, in a letter to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority on Tuesday.

In the directive, Ejibunu stated, “I am directed by the Honourable Minister of Aviation to mandate all outbound flights from Nigeria, particularly foreign airlines, to patronise local caterers for on-board meals.”

The ministry stressed the need for strict compliance with the policy by all foreign airlines operating in the country. Implementation strategies and further details are expected in the coming months.

This move is seen as a way to support the local economy and strengthen the aviation catering sector in Nigeria.
