- Parents of youths arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protests in Kano appealed for justice, citing harsh treatment and lack of legal representation
- The Majority Leader of the Kano State Assembly assured parents that steps would be taken to facilitate bail for the detained youths
Parents of youths arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protests have appealed to the Kano State House of Assembly, seeking justice for their detained children.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Malam Nura Ahmad revealed that around 70 youths were arrested and taken to Abuja, where they are reportedly being subjected to harsh treatment.
Ahmad expressed concerns over the poor conditions, stating that the detainees had not been allowed to bathe or groom themselves and were only being fed once a day.
He also highlighted that efforts to secure bail have been unsuccessful, and the detainees have been denied access to legal representation.
Fatima Yusuf Umar, one of the mothers, shared her distress about her son’s suffering. She mentioned that during their last conversation, her son said he could barely see due to the harsh treatment he was enduring.
In response, the Majority Leader of the Kano State Assembly, who met with the parents, assured them that steps would be taken to facilitate bail for the youths.
He also called on the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to intervene and ensure the detainees’ bail was granted.
