The Senate has expressed solid support for its leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, through a confidence vote.

This decisive move follows a motion presented by Abdul Ningi, Bauchi Central Senator, aiming to quell recent speculation about Akpabio’s removal.

The development comes on the heels of reports suggesting a plot to unseat Akpabio, which sparked concern within the Senate.

Prior to Ningi’s motion, Yahaya Abdullahi, Kebbi North Senator, addressed the chamber, stating his privilege had been breached by allegations.

Northern senators were falsely accused of orchestrating Akpabio’s removal, Abdullahi claimed, emphasizing no northern senator challenged Akpabio’s “good works.”

“I am a northern senator and my privilege has been breached by these allegations,” Abdullahi said.

“I am a senior member of this chamber and member of the Northern Senators Forum; I can assure you no northern senator or group seeks to remove Akpabio.”

Following Abdullahi’s remarks, Ningi proposed confronting Akpabio directly if senators had concerns.

“I move that we impose a vote of confidence on you, Senate President, Deputy Senate President, and the National Assembly leadership,” Ningi stated.

Akpabio subsequently put Ningi’s proposal to a voice vote, which was unanimously adopted.
