The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has begun demolishing illegal structures in Sabon Lugbe, a part of the Phase Five district of the Federal Capital City (FCC), as part of an ongoing crackdown on unauthorised developments.
Tpl. Murktar Galadima, Director of the FCTA’s Department of Development Control, said the exercise is part of the administration’s commitment to tackling illegal land grabbing in the region.
“We are here today in the Sabon Lugbe Southwest area, Phase Five district, continuing our efforts to curb illegal land grabbing, as previously warned,” Galadima stated.
He urged prospective property buyers in Abuja to ensure their properties are legally titled and have approved development plans to avoid falling victim to land scams.
The operation, which began with the demolition of 10 structures, will target nearly 50 illegal buildings, including duplexes and bungalows, in the area.
Galadima stressed that other hotspots for illegal development, such as Idu Train Station, Gosa, Kyami, Apo Tarfi, and Lugbe, are under close watch, and further demolitions are planned.
Addressing those misled into believing they could be integrated into the Phase Five district of the FCC Masterplan, Galadima stated: “There is no provision for such integration. Illegality will not be tolerated, and we will continue removing these illegal structures.”
He also reassured residents that work on the upcoming Phase Five of the FCC, in line with the Abuja Masterplan, is ongoing, with efforts being made by the FCT Urban and Regional Planning department.
