Hardship: Tinubu goes round Abuja at night, he’s aware of Nigerians suffering – Orji Uzor Kalu

The Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has said President Bola Tinubu is not oblivious to the widespread suffering in the land.

Kalu said Tinubu goes around Abuja at night just to feel the pulse of the people and to know what is happening.

He stated that Tinubu, who he described as a street person, is aware of the troubling state of the nation, particularly the country’s faltering economy.

Speaking on Thursday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today, Kalu said the president was taking steps to address the plethora of challenges of the nation.

“The president himself knows that Nigerians are suffering and hungry. He is a street person; he knows the street very well,” the former Abia State Governor said.

“The president some nights uses his car to go around and know what is happening in Abuja here.

“The president goes around with one or two cars and sees what is happening. He is not a president that is locked up in the room.”

Since assuming office last year, Tinubu has introduced a raft of policies — removal of subsidy on petrol and unification of the exchange rate — that have done little to improve the standard of living of the citizens as many now grapple with galloping inflation and cost of living crisis that have seen their disposable income depleted and their purchase power decimated.

The cost of basic items has moved beyond the reach of millions of Nigerians

Earlier this week, the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS’ recent report says that Nigeria’s inflation figures have hit 32.7 per cent in September 2024.
