- The Plateau State APC announced a boycott of the local government election rerun, criticizing PLASIEC for undermining democratic principles
- APC accused PLASIEC of hypocrisy for calling a rerun while previously declaring the elections free and fair despite genuine complaints
The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its intention to boycott the local government election rerun scheduled for Saturday.
The rerun, organized by the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), addresses areas where elections could not be held due to insufficient materials.
In a statement by the APC’s acting Publicity Secretary, Shittu Bamaiyi, the party urged its supporters not to participate in the rerun, accusing PLASIEC and the state government of disregarding democratic principles and undermining the people’s will.
The APC criticized PLASIEC for describing the previous election as free and fair while planning a rerun in certain wards.
The party argued that it would have been more credible to cancel the entire election based on genuine complaints from various political parties, not just the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
