The Bauchi police command has apprehended two minors for allegedly stealing electronics, including 100 mobile phones, from Wunti market.
In a statement on Friday, Ahmed Wakil, Bauchi police spokesperson, identified the suspects as 15-year-olds Hamza Sadiq and Adamu Ahmadu.
Wakil said officers acted on the police commissioner’s orders, Auwal Musa, ORP officers arrested the duo.
“On October 1, 2024, a mobile shop owner reported theft of: 100 mobile phones, 75 MP4 players, 30 cell phone batteries, 50 external memory cards, and 1 Bluetooth headset,” the statement reads.
“Following the report, CSP Kim Albert’s ORP team investigated, leading to the arrest of Hamza Sadiq and Adamu Ahmadu.”
Wakil said that the suspects confessed to obtaining the shop key, timing the owner’s departure, and stealing repeatedly.
The police spokesperson said the suspects sold stolen items cheaply, using the money to buy clothes, food, and a smartphone.
“The crime proceeds bought clothes, food, and a smartphone, which was later stolen from one suspect — recovered items included 21 mobile phones, five MP4 players, a charger, and a metal key,” he added.
The suspects will undergo rehabilitation after investigation completion and recovery of remaining stolen items.
