Gunmen kill expatriate, policeman, 2 others in Edo attack


At least four persons attached to a quarry company have been killed by suspected kidnappers in Edo State.

Those murdered are a policeman, an expatriate, the company driver and another person.

The incident happened on Thursday around Ihievbe-Ogbe popularly called Agor in Owan East Local Government Area of the state.

Another policeman was injured during the attack and he is being given medical attention at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Benin City.

It was gathered that the policemen were shot while trying to protect the expatriate worker, who was said to be the target of the suspected kidnappers.

A local privy to the development attributed the incident partly to the withdrawal of vigilante groups from the roads prior to the recent governorship election in Edo State.

He said the vigilante members who mostly from their areas of operation have been aiding the efforts of the police because of their familiarity with the terrains across the communities in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident, adding that efforts had begun to apprehend the suspects.

He said: “Investigation into the incident is ongoing alongside efforts in collaboration with the military to apprehend the suspects is in progress.”
