Enugu State government has confirmed a cholera outbreak in the state


The Enugu State government has confirmed a cholera outbreak in the state, reporting ten fatalities from the disease.

This is stated in a memo signed by Samuel Egwuonwu, Director of Medical Services, on behalf of the state’s Commissioner of Health.

The memo stated, “I am directed to notify you of an outbreak of Cholera disease in Enugu State. There have been reports of numerous cases, with approximately ten deaths.The state ministry of health and its partners have begun efforts to contain the situation.”

It urged healthcare providers and the public to maintain a high index of suspicion for cases presenting with acute diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, and vomiting.

The memo further advised individuals to implement precautionary measures by enhancing infection prevention and control protocols and to report any suspected cases promptly.
