- Kanu reiterated the state government commitment to improving workers’ welfare, stating that payment of the new minimum wage will commence within days
Following in the footsteps of some of his contemporaries in other States of the Federation, Governor Alex Otti has ratified a new minimum for the workers in Abia State.
The governor approved the payment of N70,000 as the new minimum wage starting from October 2024.
This Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu announced the development during a press briefing, following Monday’s State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Otti.
Kanu reiterated the state government commitment to improving workers’ welfare, stating that payment of the new minimum wage will commence within days.
“The state government is committed to the minimum wage, and within the next few days, payment of the new minimum wage will commence,” Kanu stated.
He added, “If the governor wants to deviate from the national standard and pay higher, so be it.”
The development was confirmed by Commissioner for Labour and Productivity Sunny Onwuma
