Former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark, has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s decision to scrap the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
Speaking in Abuja, Clark expressed surprise at the move, stating that there was no justification for it.
He argued that the Ministry, created by the late President Umaru Yar’Adua, was established to ensure the development of the Niger Delta region, bring peace, and address pipeline vandalism.
Clark, who leads the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) and the Southern and Middle-Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF), accused the government of using funds from the South-South region to finance other development commissions across Nigeria.
He stressed that the federal government lacks a clear plan for the Niger Delta and warned that the region’s leaders would not allow the Ministry to be scrapped without consultation or a replacement strategy.
