President Bola Tinubu has written to the senate to confirm seven new ministerial nominees.
The president’s request was contained in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Thursday.
WITHIN NIGERIA reported that Tinubu fired some ministers and appointed these new ones in a cabinet shakeup on Wednesday.
Akpabio hasn’t announced a specific date for the confirmation hearing, but it’s expected to take place shortly.
The presidency announced the new appointments following the Federal Executive Council meeting.
Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu became Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, while Jumoke Oduwole took charge of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.
Nentawe Yilwatda replaced Betta Edu as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction. Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi became Minister of Labour and Employment.
Idi Mukhtar Maiha assumed the Ministry of Livestock Development, and Yusuf Abdullahi Ata became Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development.
Suwaiba Said Ahmad was appointed Minister of State for Education.
Shehu Dikko now chairs the National Sports Commission, taking over duties from the dissolved Ministry of Sports Development.
Those relieved of their duties include:
1. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye (Minister of Women Affairs)
2. Lola Ade-John (Minister of Tourism)
3. Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Minister of Youth Development)
4. Tahir Mamman (Minister of Education)
5. Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development)
