The Kwara state police command has confirmed the arrest of five male suspects in connection with the alleged murder of 46-year-old Lanre Adebayo, a political science graduate from the University of Ilorin.
Adebayo was reportedly involved in a heated argument with the local securitymen on his way home, which escalated into violence.
Ejire Adeyemi, the Kwara police spokesperson, confirmed the development.
“The case was reported to command headquarters on Wednesday evening, and the suspects, all males, have been brought in for further interrogation. Investigation is ongoing, and we will brief the press once it is concluded,” Adeyemi said.
However, sources claimed that he was allegedly macheted to death around 10:00 p.m.
The suspects include the community chairman, two local security guards, and two others.
The arrest followed the fatal incident, which occurred on Sunday night in the Ita-Elepa area of Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State.
The suspects were arrested by police operatives on Tuesday and transferred to the Kwara State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters on Wednesday.
