A tragic accident along the Abakaliki-Enugu expressway in Ebonyi State has claimed at least five lives and injured seven others.
The incident occurred at the G-Hostel axis of the road.
According to State Police Public Relations Officer Joshua Ukandu, a fully-loaded commercial bus traveling from Enugu crashed and burst into flames after hitting an obstacle in the middle of the night. The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki, while the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the mortuary.
Ukandu noted that investigations are ongoing and offered condolences to the families of the deceased, wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.
