Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity for Kano State, has announced the tragic death of his 15-year-old son, Sadiq Modibbo Bature.

Sadiq passed away following complications after a bone marrow transplant surgery in India.

Sadiq had been living with sickle cell anaemia since birth and underwent the transplant in hopes of improving his health. However, just days after the procedure, he succumbed to post-surgery complications affecting his brain.

In a heartfelt post on social media, Bature described Sadiq as a bright and well-mannered young boy who endured significant pain throughout his life due to his condition.

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of Bature’s first child, saying, “Throughout his life, Modibbo suffered from sickle cell anaemia. He underwent a successful bone marrow transplant this month in an Indian hospital. Unfortunately, he died as a result of post-surgery complications in his brain.”

Bature confirmed that Sadiq’s body would be returned to Nigeria for burial in accordance with Islamic rites in their hometown of Dawakin-Tofa. He stated, “The date and time will be announced upon the arrival of his remains.”

Sadiq is expected to be buried this weekend. Meanwhile, condolences and tributes have flooded social media in response to the heartbreaking news. Mukhtar Yahya Usman expressed his sympathies, highlighting Sadiq’s bravery in facing his health challenges.

“This is truly a profound and painful loss, and I am deeply saddened by the news,” Usman wrote. “Sadiq, with his bright spirit and obedient nature, faced the trials of life with immense courage and grace.”

Another friend, Hamza Ibrahim Baba, shared his grief, stating, “May the Almighty Allah SWT forgive him and accept his SHAHADA. May Aljannat Alfirdaus be his final abode. Alhaji Sanusi and Hajiya Aminatu, please take heart. May Allah reward you for all you have done for him and your efforts to save his life.”
