Ariyo, a student of Obada Idi-Emi High School in Imeko Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State, has died after allegedly receiving 162 strokes of the cane from a teacher.
The incident, reported by activist Adetoun on Instagram, occurred after Ariyo jokingly commented on a dustbin that the teacher had instructed students not to break.
The teacher, angered by Ariyo’s remark, reportedly took the matter to the school principal, who ordered that the student be punished.
Following this, the teacher allegedly flogged Ariyo excessively, causing him to collapse.
Despite the severity of the situation, there was reportedly a delay in getting Ariyo to the hospital, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
A senior police officer confirmed the incident, stating that while it initially caused tension in the area, police intervention helped restore calm.
The Ogun State Police Command is investigating the case, but the spokesperson has yet to release an official statement.
