Abba Yusuf swears in Kano LG chairpersons, orders immediate resumption

The NNPP won the 44 LGA seats and also swept all the 484 councillorship seats


Abba Yusuf, Kano state governor, has sworn in the 44 elected local government chairmen and 484 counsellors in Kano on Sunday.

WITHIN NIGERIA had reported the ruling party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP in Kano sate won all 44 local government chairmanship seats in the LGA polls that was held on Saturday.

The governor issued an immediate directive to the LG officials to resume offices on Monday.

The swearing in ceremony was held at Kano state government house — elected officials took the oath of office, administered to them by the state Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi.

Yusuf congratulated the newly elected officers and described their victory as a “milestone towards the journey to consolidate democracy” in the state.

“We have made giant strides in the areas of education through the provision of basic learning materials and a conducive atmosphere for learning,” NAN quoted the governor as saying.

”To this end, you are expected to align with the state government’s vision and work towards achieving our development goals.”

The governor lauded the state electoral body for conducting seamless elections, adding that the commission’s efficiency facilitated prompt benefits for council members, while also praising Kano residents for their exemplary conduct during the polls.

He praised security agencies for ensuring peaceful polls, adding that newly elected chairmen must prioritize honesty, integrity, and transparency in their governance.

The governor harped on the need for accountability, urging them never to betray the trust reposed in them by the electorate.
