At least five persons have reportedly lost their lives in a violent clash between farmers and herders in Adamawa State.

The clash happened at Kukta community in Waltadi District of Song Local Government Area of the northeast State.

Unspecified number of persons were also said to have suffered varying degrees of severe injuries during the fighting that happened between the later hours of Saturday, October 27 and early hours of Sunday.

Houses were burnt down and many other valuable properties destroyed in the clash which is previously unheard of in the district.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident Sunday.

According to him, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Morris Dankombo, had deployed operatives to the scene and the situation had been brought under control.

Nguroje had released a statement on the clash earlier on Sunday and spoke of police deployment to restore peace and normalcy and to also investigate the circumstances leading to it.

He had stated that the “violent altercation led to the loss of lives and destruction of property” but did not give the number of the dead.

He still had not disclosed the police version of the human casualty up to press time but available witness accounts put the figure at five
