Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf praised the peaceful conduct of the chairmanship and councillorship elections, which took place across the state’s 44 local government areas.

Exactly as he was “appealing to the judiciary to continue to be neutral when it comes to elections, it is not good for our judiciary to be partisan.”

He made the claim while speaking with journalists at the state Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) headquarters shortly after casting his vote in Gwale, his local government area.

According to him, the elections which took place in 484 wards across the 44 local governments, were the freest in Kano’s history.

Gov Yusuf, however, assured that those elected would serve the people’s interests and his administration would ensure good governance.

The governor commended the chairman and staff of KANSIEC for ensuring the conduct of free and fair elections in the state.

He emphasised that When it comes to elections, there shouldn’t be any impunity and we should ensure that people are allowed to freely exercise their franchise.

”I am appealing to the judiciary to continue to be neutral when it comes to elections,it is not good for our judiciary to be partisan.

He added that “Even though Kano State Government is the only Government which came into office under the platform of New Nigeria People Party (NNPP), we shouldn’t be intimidated, people of Kano are peace-loving, but if they are pushed to the wall, they can react.

Gov.Yusuf hinted that “We’ve seen what happened in Rivers, so we took proactive measures to ensure that a similar scenario does not happen in Kano.

Also, the presidential candidate of NNPP in 2023 election, Rabiu Musa kwankwaso emphasized the importance of participating in the democratic process.

He cast his vote during the local government council election on Saturday at his polling unit in Kwankwaso town, Madobi Local Government Area.

According to him, “I have cast my vote at my polling unit in Kwankwaso as part of the ongoing local government elections in Kano

“I encourage everyone to exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation,” stated Kwankwaso.
