The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has voiced concerns over a confrontation between officers of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

Tensions reportedly flared after an NSCDC officer, identified as Owoeye, was allegedly assaulted by police while on duty at an estate.

The officer was later detained, sparking a dispute between the two agencies.

In response, the Osun State government convened a meeting with security heads to mediate the situation.

In a statement issued on Saturday, police spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi described the clash as “unprofessional.” Inspector General Egbetokun has directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 11, Osogbo, to launch a thorough investigation into the incident.

“The Inspector General expresses displeasure at the unprofessional behaviour and the public display of division,” the statement read. “He has ordered a discreet investigation to uncover the root cause of the confrontation.”

Egbetokun also highlighted the importance of cooperation between security agencies, referencing an earlier statement in which he emphasised the need for “esprit de corps” and professionalism across security forces.

The police chief has called for calm, assuring that the force will continue to work closely with other security agencies to maintain peace and security across the country.
