FCTA Cracks Down on Beggars, Scavengers, and Street Vendors in Abuja

The operation was carried out by a joint task force involving police, military, and other paramilitary agencies

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has launched a major crackdown on beggars, scavengers, and street vendors across Abuja, detaining 34 individuals on Monday.

The operation, part of a ministerial directive aimed at clearing the city of such activities, was carried out by a joint task force involving police, military, and other paramilitary agencies.

Key areas targeted included the city centre, airport road, Kubwa-Gwarinpa axis, and Asokoro-Nyanya-Karu corridor.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, described the clampdown as a “national assignment,” while officials confirmed that those detained will be assessed at a rehabilitation centre, with some offered vocational training.
