Professor Oguejiofor Ujam, a lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has been released after being kidnapped by gunmen.

The Enugu State Police Command reported that Ujam escaped his captors during an operation on October 28, 2024, around 7:10 p.m. in the Neke-Uno area of the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road, where they foiled another kidnapping attempt.

Ujam was abducted on October 26 along the Ugwuogo-Opi Nsukka Road. During the police operation, a gunfight ensued with the suspects, who fled with gunshot wounds, leaving behind an AK-47 rifle, two magazines with 22 rounds of ammunition, and a chain of 39 live rounds.

In response to ongoing security challenges, Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has ordered additional personnel and resources to enhance police operations along the critical Enugu/Opi/Nsukka route, reassuring the public about their safety in the area. citeturn0search27
