Bauchi State Police Suspend Annual Zaar Festival Following Court Order

In a statement released on Thursday, SP Ahmed Wakil, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed that the decision follows a restraining order issued by a High Court on October 30, 2024

The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the suspension of the annual Zaar festival, which was set to take place on Saturday, November 2, 2024.

In a statement released on Thursday, SP Ahmed Wakil, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed that the decision follows a restraining order issued by a High Court on October 30, 2024.

“Following the High Court’s directive, the Bauchi State Police Command informs the public that the 2024 Zaar Festival, set for November 2, has been suspended,” the statement read.

Wakil highlighted that previous Zaar Festival events have been plagued by violence, including assaults, property damage, and disruptions to public order.

“As such, festival organizers and participants are barred from holding any related processions in Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro Local Government Areas or elsewhere until a final court decision is made,” he added.

To ensure community safety and harmony, Commissioner of Police CP Auwal Mohammed has announced measures that will be implemented throughout the state during this period.
