A 15-member committee comprising governors and traditional rulers has been formed to draft key recommendations for a bill to establish a National Council of Traditional Rulers.

Chaired by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, the committee aims to define specific roles for traditional rulers in strengthening peace and security through a grassroots approach.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State disclosed this after the first dialogue between the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the National Council of Traditional Rulers, held in Abuja.

Abiodun explained that the committee will review suggestions on how traditional rulers can contribute to community policing and intelligence sharing. The committee will ensure these recommendations are included in a bill for presentation to the National Assembly.

The committee has been given four to six weeks to complete its work and submit the recommendations.
