- He expressed concern that motor parks have become hubs for the sale of these substances, leading to impaired driving and risking lives
The Nigerian House of Representatives has taken steps to ban the sale of alcohol and psychoactive drugs in motor parks across the country.
This follows a motion sponsored by Abbas Adigun, a lawmaker representing Ibadan North-East/Ibadan South-East, during Thursday’s plenary.
Adigun cited a Federal Road Safety Commission report showing that 90% of road accidents in Nigeria are linked to the consumption of alcohol and drugs.
He expressed concern that motor parks have become hubs for the sale of these substances, leading to impaired driving and risking lives.
The House called on federal, state, and local governments to enforce the ban and urged the FRSC to conduct random tests on drivers in motor parks.
Transport operators were also encouraged to stop the sale of alcohol in private parks.
