Ali Pate, coordinating minister of health and social welfare, announced the federal government’s plan to release Nigeria’s first-ever state of health report.

This revelation came on Thursday in Abuja during a media briefing on the upcoming Health Sector Joint Annual Review (JAR).

The report is a comprehensive compilation of data from various surveys and departments, aimed at understanding public perception of the healthcare system.

According to Pate, this report will establish a baseline for ongoing health sector reforms, enabling informed decision-making and targeted interventions.

The report will be reviewed at the JAR, scheduled to take place from November 6-8.

“The JAR will bring together key stakeholders, including state governors, commissioners, and development partners, to discuss Nigeria’s healthcare sector progress,” Pate stated.

He added that the assessment will focus on critical areas such as maternal and child health, access to primary healthcare, and combating diseases like HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria.

The JAR, facilitated through the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp), aims to promote dialogue and collaboration among agencies, parastatals, development partners, and media.

This collaboration seeks to enhance accountability, track progress, and build a unified ‘One Health’ narrative.
