Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has suggested that Nigeria consider adopting China’s leadership selection model, which prioritizes a merit-based system over conventional elections.
Speaking at the 24th National Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Agricultural Engineers in Abuja, Zulum highlighted the benefits of the Chinese approach, where leaders are chosen based on proven integrity and past performance before being subjected to an election.
“Our problem in Nigeria isn’t just about leadership but also followership,” Zulum said, calling for a balanced focus on both.
He also stressed the role of technology in tackling Nigeria’s food security challenges, advocating for innovations like artificial intelligence and biotechnology to transform the agricultural sector.
