Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed sympathy to the management of Enyimba FM Aba following a fire incident that affected the station.
The fire, which occurred on Saturday evening, also impacted Legend 98.3FM and Rose 101.9FM, leading to their temporary closure.
According to Enyimba TV and Radio Ltd, the fire started around 9:30 p.m. but was quickly extinguished thanks to the efforts of local community members and bystanders.
During his visit to the site on Sunday, Governor Otti described the incident as unfortunate, expressing relief that no lives were lost. He assured the station’s management that the government would support their efforts to resume broadcasting.
Otti emphasized the importance of fire safety, particularly as the dry season approaches, and advised that proper precautions be taken when installing solar panels, which were reportedly the source of the fire.
The governor further advised all offices to have fire extinguishers and revealed that the state had recently introduced new emergency vehicles with prompt response capabilities. He also noted that Enyimba FM has insurance and pledged government support to help them recover swiftly.
