The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured a sweeping victory in Nasarawa’s local government elections, winning all 13 chairmanship positions.

Ayuba Wandai, Chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), announced the results on Sunday in Lafia, revealing APC’s dominance in the councillorship elections, with 140 wins out of 147 electoral wards.

In contrast, opposing parties managed to secure only seven seats, with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) achieving limited successes in specific local governments, as stated by Wandai.

“Candidates of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) won one seat in Akwanga, four in Nassarawa-Eggon, while Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won two in Doma Local Government”.

Nine political parties participated in the council elections, showcasing the diverse political landscape of Nasarawa State.

Governor Abdullahi Sule is set to swear in the newly elected local government officials on Monday, according to Mohammed Aliyu, Secretary to the State Government.

The inauguration ceremony will take place at 8:30 am at the Late Aliyu Akwe Doma Banquet Hall in the Government House, with distinguished guests expected to arrive by 8:00 am.

The guest list includes prominent figures such as the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Principal Officers, and Members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, as well as top judicial officials, as outlined by Aliyu: “Dignitaries expected at the event include… the Hon. Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, the Grand Kadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal, and the President of the Customary Court of Appeal”.

Additionally, Aliyu extended invitations to Members of the State Executive and Security Councils, Special Advisers, and top Government appointees, emphasizing the significance of the event.
