Blackout: We Lost Over N6bn – Kano DisCo

KEDCO Reports Significant Losses Amid Extended Power Outages and Vandalism

Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has announced a significant loss of approximately N6 billion due to a 12-day power outage that affected business and social activities in Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states.

During this outage, the company reported the vandalism of 70 transformers, exacerbating its operational challenges. Sani Bala Sani, KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, explained that the company is currently implementing load shedding, prioritizing industrial and commercial feeders to support economic activities in Kano, an industrial hub.

This strategy is designed to stabilize electricity supply for high-demand users, including businesses and employers, amid the ongoing crisis.

The blackout was initiated by a tripping incident on the 330kV transmission line, which disconnected several states in the northwestern and northeastern regions from the national grid.

Power was restored on Wednesday, with efforts underway to balance electricity distribution between industrial and residential users.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) worked diligently to re-establish grid connectivity, gradually restoring electricity to communities across the affected areas in the northern region.
