Kano State Launches Comprehensive Expatriate Registration to Boost Security

The Kano State Government has established a committee to conduct a comprehensive verification and registration exercise for all expatriates living and working in the state.

Announced on Sunday, the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen security in the region, known as a major hub of commerce and industry in Nigeria’s northwest.

The Committee of Experts on Expatriates, operating under the office of the Secretary to the State Government, aims to sanitise and secure the business environment by ensuring expatriates and their businesses comply with local regulations. According to the committee’s Media Officer, Yakasai, the exercise will target expatriates across the state, including key business areas.

In a press statement, Yakasai highlighted the cooperation of expatriates at the Kantin Kwari Market, many of whom have already participated in the verification process. The committee commended their compliance, noting it is essential for maintaining a safe and business-friendly environment in Kano.

Expatriates and their businesses are encouraged to prioritise their registration, as the exercise is crucial for safeguarding legitimate business interests and ensuring that Kano remains welcoming to law-abiding enterprises.

The verification will cover registration documents, permits, and compliance with local laws. The committee will continue its outreach across the state to ensure smooth coordination between the government and the expatriate community.
