The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, commonly known as the Lagos State Taskforce, impounded 70 vehicles on Monday for serious violations of the Lagos State traffic law.
According to a statement from the Director of Public Affairs, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the vehicles were seized during coordinated operations targeting areas plagued by reckless driving by commercial transporters, which have led to significant traffic congestion and public nuisance.
Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, warned that the agency will rigorously enforce traffic and environmental laws, stating that violators will not be given any leniency. He emphasized that adherence to these laws is essential for ensuring public safety and maintaining order on the roads.
The operations were conducted at various locations, including Okuta Road Junction in Bariga, Oba Akran Road under the bridge in Ikeja, and Ladipo along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway. CSP Akerele reiterated that traffic congestion is a result of reckless behavior rather than an unavoidable occurrence, asserting the agency’s commitment to tackling indiscipline on the roads.
