Police officer stabs soldier to death in Nasarawa


In Nasarawa State, a special constabulary officer has killed a soldier after a violent confrontation ensued between them.

The incident happened on Sunday at Agyaragu market in Lafia Local Government area of the middle belt State.

Matters reportedly came to a head when an altercation began between the two men which led to fierce brawl, resulting in both sustaining injuries

The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel.

According to the Police, the soldier, who was home on leave from his posting in Borno State, allegedly stabbed the constabulary officer with a knife.

In response, the constable managed to take control of the knife and stabbed the soldier. Both men were rushed to the hospital, where the soldier was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.

Nansel added that following the soldier’s death, Many of his relatives mobilized and attempted to attack the local police station, but officers on duty managed to thwart the assault, but two individuals lost their lives in the ensuing confrontation, while two others were hospitalized with injuries.

DSP Nansel stated that calm has since been restored in Agyaragu after the Commissioner of Police, CP Shehu Umar Nadada, visited the scene to address the situation.

The police spokesperson in the state also revealed the police have launched a manhunt for unidentified individuals responsible for further attacks on the police station in the community
