Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu Gaspar, announced his resignation on Monday, expressing his desire to “pursue a different challenge” after leading a significant period of growth and improvement for the club in recent years.
Edu, who was a key player in Arsenal’s last Premier League-winning team of 2003/04, became the club’s first technical director in 2019.
His tenure included overseeing Mikel Arteta’s appointment as manager and contributing to the club’s renewed competitiveness in English football.
Reports indicate that the Brazilian may be in line for a new role with Greek businessman Evangelos Marinakis, the owner of Nottingham Forest and Olympiakos.
“This was an incredibly hard decision to make,” Edu said in a statement on Arsenal’s website.
