The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with WONDFO BIOTECH Ltd., a global leader in HIV test kit manufacturing, to facilitate the local production of HIV diagnostic reagents in the country.

The Director General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Dr. Temitope Ilori, announced the agreement on Wednesday in Abuja while receiving a donation of 4,000 HIV test kits from WONDFO ahead of World AIDS Day celebrations.

Dr. Ilori expressed optimism about the initiative, which aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s value chain development agenda. “We look forward to seeing domestic production of HIV test kits and commodities here in Nigeria,” she said, praising the collaboration.

The donation includes self-test and professional use kits, aimed at enhancing healthcare and supporting efforts to end the AIDS epidemic in Nigeria. Ilori noted that the test kits would enable individuals to check their HIV status from the comfort of their homes, which is vital in combating the spread of the virus.

WONDFO’s Country Representative, Mr. Bravo Ouhabru, emphasised the importance of reliable testing in HIV prevention and highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting NACA’s efforts to eliminate the virus by 2030.

He added that private pharmacies would also be supplied with the test kits at subsidised rates to encourage widespread testing and early diagnosis.
