Security forces in Katsina State thwarted multiple kidnapping attempts and rescued 21 victims during a violent confrontation with armed bandits in Jibia Local Government Area late on Thursday.
The Katsina State Police Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian military, the state’s Community Watch Corps, and local vigilantes, repelled coordinated attacks on three locations in Jibia Township.
However, one member of the Community Watch Corps and a vigilante tragically lost their lives during the clash.
According to a statement released on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Abubakar Sadiq, the attack occurred around 9:15 p.m. on November 7, 2024. Armed bandits launched simultaneous assaults on the Ka’ida, Unguwar One Boy, and Danmarke quarters of Jibia.
The swift response from the joint security forces, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia, resulted in a fierce gun battle that lasted for more than an hour. The bandits were eventually forced to retreat, suffering unspecified casualties.
Despite the successful rescue, the operation claimed the lives of two security personnel—one from the Community Watch Corps and a local vigilante—who were killed in the line of duty.
The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State, Aliyu Musa, reaffirmed the force’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
