- The Nigeria Customs Service has banned the use of “camp boys” as errand runners at border posts due to security risks
- Assistant Comptroller General Dangaladima emphasized the need for Customs officers to enhance cooperation with local stakeholders for effective operations
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has instructed Customs officers to stop employing “camp boys” as errand runners at border posts.
This directive was delivered by Assistant Comptroller General Sambo Kaliyal Dangaladima during his visit to the Kebbi State Area Command in Birnin Kebbi.
According to Dangaladima, using these unrecognized “camp boys” poses security risks, as they could potentially pass sensitive information to smugglers and criminal groups.
He stressed that the presence of these individuals creates security vulnerabilities at both border checkpoints and posts.
“Customs officers are hereby warned to stop using these errand boys, as they may come to be mistaken for Customs personnel by the public,” Dangaladima stated.
Under CG Adeniyi’s leadership, the Customs Service remains committed to improving the welfare of its personnel. Dangaladima encouraged the command to strengthen cooperation with local stakeholders, including traditional leaders and partner agencies, for more effective operations.
“Engage with our communities, listen to their needs, and foster mutual trust and collaboration,” he advised.
During the visit, CG Adeniyi inaugurated a new e-library and football pitch for the Kebbi Command. Kebbi Command Comptroller Iheanacho Ernest Ojike explained that the football pitch was built to enhance officers’ physical fitness and morale. “Physical activities are essential to maintain the health and motivation of our personnel,” Ojike added.
