Kano: Man abducts, defiles teenage girl after father withheld marriage consent

One Hassan Muhammad allegedly abducted and defiled a 16-year-old teenager identified as Zaliha Ibrahim.

Muhammad, 28, was said to have whisked away Zalihu to Kano State after abducting her in a bid marry her.

The suspect has since been arrested by the Gombe State Police command, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed.

According to Abdullahi, the suspect had approached Ibrahim’s father for the hand of his daughter in marriage.

Zalihu’s father however requested for more time before giving his consent.

Abdullahi stated that instead of waiting for the bride’s blessings the suspect eloped to Kano, approached Hisbah authorities in order to get their approval to legalise the knot.

Briefing journalists on Friday at the command’s headquarters, Abdullahi presented the case under rape and abduction, adding that while in Kano, without the supposed bride’s approval, Muhammad had carnal knowledge of the minor.

The PRO said, “On 26th of October 2024 a case of abduction and rape was reported to the Commissioner of Police by one Mallam Ibrahim Sani of Kufayi village via Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State against the Hassan Muhammad to CP monitoring unit for discreet investigation.

“That on 19th October 2024 the suspect went to his house to seek for his daughter’s hand in marriage one Zaliha Ibrahim aged 16 years. He then told him (Muhammad) to give him some time before he makes his decision. Upon learning such, the suspect deceived and took the girl to Kano State without the consent of her parents.”

Explaining how Muhammad was nabbed in Kano, Abdullahi added, “A team of detectives from CP monitoring unit swung into action to Kano State Police Command and to Hisbah Commission where tracking analysis was conducted on the suspect’s phone number revealed his location.

“The victim confessed to have had carnal knowledge of the victim in his house located in Kano State and that he took her to Hisbah Commission to get them married, the case will soon be charged to court for prosecution.”
