The Kwara State Government has imposed restrictions on specific vehicle types from using Ahmadu Bello Way in Ilorin, the state capital.

The restriction was announced on Friday by the state Ministry of Works and Transport, ordering immediate enforcement by Kwara Road Traffic Management Agency (KWARTMA).

To implement this, restriction signages are being erected along designated areas from Challenge Area through Ahmadu Bello Way, connecting the state capital.

According to Abdulquawiy Olododo, Commissioner for Works and Transport, “Ahmadu Bello way is the road network that links the Government House, as such, the signage will be mounted along this axis to restrict access by motorcycles, tricycles, commercial vehicles and heavy-duty vehicles of certain categories.”

KWARTMA’s Ag. CEO, Engr Bamidele Michael, stated that this move aims to complement existing “No Parking signs” and boost safety and security.

He urged traders to refrain from using pedestrian walkways for trading activities, specifically in areas like Oja-oba, Gambari, and Ita-Amodu.

Bamidele also warned that driving against traffic is increasing and offenders will face sanctions according to the law.
