  • NDLEA officers are accused of killing youth Faisal Yakubu Hussaini during a raid in Plateau State, prompting community outrage and demands for justice
  • The Kanam Development Association condemns the extrajudicial killing, calling for the arrest and prosecution of the involved NDLEA officers

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) are accused of killing a youth, Faisal Yakubu Hussaini, during a raid in Dangi, the headquarters of Kanam Local Government Area, Plateau State.

According to community members, the incident occurred when NDLEA officers stormed a local lodge, firing gunshots that allegedly caused panic and led to the tragic death of Hussaini.

Witnesses questioned the officers about any alleged crime at the lodge but received no explanation. The Kanam Development Association (KADA), represented by its Chairman, Barrister G. Aliyu, and Secretary, ND Shehu Kanam, condemned the incident strongly.

KADA’s secretary expressed deep outrage over the incident, stating, “The leadership of Kanam Development Association is profoundly saddened by the extrajudicial killing of Faisal Yakubu Hussaini Adafa by NDLEA officers in Dengi, Kanam LGA, on Thursday, November 7, 2024.

“This heinous act is unacceptable and violates the fundamental human rights of the victim. While we acknowledge the NDLEA’s right to operate within the bounds of the law, we strongly condemn this brutal and unjustifiable killing.

The agency’s actions undermine the public’s trust in law enforcement. We demand the immediate arrest and prosecution of the officers involved in this heinous crime.

“We urge our youths to remain calm and law-abiding as we pursue legal measures to address this barbaric act. We will not let this incident go unchecked and will work tirelessly to ensure justice is served.”

In response, the Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State NDLEA Command, Abba Muhammad Sani, stated that the agency would investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
