The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ogun Command has assigned 3,150 personnel to ensure security and success in the forthcoming local government elections.
The NSCDC Commandant, Mrs. Remilekun Ekundayo, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abeokuta on Saturday.
She explained that the personnel would focus on safeguarding voters and preventing protests during the election.
Established in 1967 and formally recognized by an Act of Parliament in 2003, the NSCDC has various responsibilities, including protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and safeguarding critical infrastructure.
Ekundayo noted that personnel have been deployed across the 20 local government areas of the state.
However, she warned individuals planning to disrupt the polls or incite violence to desist, stating that the defence corps would take necessary action against such individuals.
Governor Dapo Abiodun has expressed a strong commitment to ensuring the elections are free, fair, and credible.
The Ogun local government elections are scheduled for November 16.
The personnel are tasked with maintaining peace and preventing violence during the elections.
