A section of the Apapa Container Terminal crane at Tin-Can Island Port, operated by Port and Cargo Handling Company, was engulfed by fire on Saturday in Lagos State.
In a statement, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) confirmed that no lives were lost during the incident.
The fire was swiftly extinguished by the NPA’s firemen, with help from other agencies, preventing damage to surrounding facilities.
NPA spokesperson Ikechukwu Onyemekara praised the firemen for their professionalism and expressed gratitude that the fire was contained without further harm.
He reassured stakeholders that under the leadership of Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, the NPA remains committed to ensuring safety and improving the ease of doing business at Nigerian ports.
