Monday Okpebholo, a sitting senator, has assumed the governorship of Edo State, marking a significant transition in the state’s leadership .
Okpebholo formally took office on Tuesday during an inauguration ceremony held in Benin, the state capital.
This milestone follows his victory in the September 21 off-cycle governorship election, where he represented the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In the election, Okpebholo garnered 291,667 votes, surpassing Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who secured 247,274 votes. Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) trailed behind with 22,763 votes.
Prominent figures in attendance at the inauguration included Vice-President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, reinstated Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, and other governors affiliated with the APC.
The event signifies a new chapter for Edo State under Okpebholo’s leadership, following the conclusion of the previous administration’s tenure.
