Tragedy struck in Ekiti community, claiming the lives of four young men at a river.
The victims, who traveled from Lagos for an event in Okemesi-Ekiti, Ekiti West Local Government Area, met their demise on Sunday.
They were swimming in Osun River, along Ajindo, Ikoro-Ekiti Road, when they mysteriously drowned.
The circumstances surrounding their drowning, especially during the dry season, remain unclear.
As of the time of filing this report, the identities of the young men had not been disclosed.
However, sources revealed that two of the deceased hailed from Aworogun household in Okemesi-Ekiti, while the other two were from Lagos State.
On Monday, Ekiti Police Command’s PPRO, DSP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations were underway.
According to Abutu, “A distress report, received on 10/11/2024, has it that on the same date, a 23-year-old, and a 25-year-old, natives of Okemesi-Ekiti went to River Osun Ajindo/Idoile road to swim alongside two of their friends that came from Lagos State to attend a burial ceremony, which took place at Okemesi.
“The four young men unfortunately drowned.
“Their bodies have been recovered, and deposited in the morgue, while investigation is underway.”
