- Pep Guardiola assures Manchester City fans the team will “return to our best” despite suffering four consecutive defeats in all competitions
- Guardiola cites injuries impacting the squad’s consistency and emphasizes the need for urgent changes to regain winning form
Pep Guardiola has assured Manchester City fans that the team will “return to our best” despite enduring a fourth consecutive defeat, a first for Guardiola in his esteemed coaching career. City’s 2-1 loss to Brighton on Saturday followed recent defeats to Tottenham (League Cup), Bournemouth (Premier League), and Sporting Lisbon (Champions League).
Currently trailing Liverpool by five points in the Premier League, City’s ambitions for a record fifth straight league title have been tested.
Guardiola reflected on the situation, saying, “I’ve been a player, and I’ve lost multiple games in a row before. It’s part of the journey. Winning before doesn’t mean we’re untouchable.”
Injuries have impacted the squad significantly, with key players like Ruben Dias, John Stones, Jeremy Doku, and Jack Grealish missing in recent matches.
Guardiola admitted, “We lack the consistency that has driven our success in past seasons. Hopefully, we’ll find our way back; if not, we’ll learn from it.”
While City has been crowned champions in six of the last seven seasons, struggles in the autumn months aren’t new. Last year, they managed only one league win in six games during November and December but ultimately reclaimed the title.
After the international break, City faces a challenging stretch, including fixtures against Tottenham, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, Manchester United, and Aston Villa, as they regain their form before the holiday season.
